Alumni Entertainment Industry Mixer

Location: Lionsgate Headquarters, Tiato Resturant
2700 Colorado Avenue #190
Santa Monica, CA90404

It was easy to confuse the group of Panthers at the Fourth Annual Alumni Entertainment Industry (AEI) Mixer for one of film’s most electric crowd scenes of all-time. Think the sea of people standing before Moses in Cecil B. De Mille’s The Ten Commandments (1923) or the busy Manhattan streets in The Crowd’s (1928) classic tracking shot.

Okay, maybe our group didn’t quite match the thousands of extras in those films, but with a record-breaking 300-plus attendees (a 250% increase from 2014), the 2015 AEI Mixer similarly made history—as the largest Chapman University alumni career event ever.

Women of Chapman 30th Annual Christmas at the Ritz Gala

Location: Island Hotel
690 Newport Center Drive
Newport Beach, CA92660

Date: December 10, 2016
Time: 11 a.m.

Christmas at The Ritz is Women of Chapman’s premier and sole fundraising event, and has been an Orange County tradition since 1986. This glamorous and festive holiday luncheon was previously held each December at The Ritz Restaurant in Newport Beach, until its closure. The Ritz tradition carries on today at Island Hotel, adjacent to Fashion Island in Newport Beach, and still features the same special menu as the old venue, but provides a much larger space to socialize and ring in the holiday season.

Christmas at The Ritz has earned a reputation as the kick-off event of the holiday season for social Orange County. The exclusive event, which sells out quickly every year, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on December 10, 2016, with projected net proceeds to be in excess of $300,000 for Chapman University.

A highlight of the event each year is the raffle drawing, which has been described by media outlets as possibly the most lavish charity raffle on the Orange Coast with prices valued in the thousands of dollars. Raffle prizes are generously donated by some top OC boutiques, jewelers and vendors including David Yurman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, Fendi, Lugano Diamonds and Neiman Marcus.

President's Circle Breakfast and State of the University Address

9 a.m. - President's Circle Breakfast in Beckman 404
11 a.m. - State of the University Address in Memorial Hall
12 p.m. - Hilbert Museum of Art Grand Opening

Please RSVP to Paula Pearl '15 for the President's Circle breakfast if you have not done so already by Friday, February 12.

You are invited and encouraged to attend the annual State of the University Address, which President Jim Doti will present on Friday, February 26, from 11:00 to 12:00 a.m. in Memorial Hall.

This will be a multi-media presentation that discusses the current state of the university we all love and serve, reflects upon Chapman’s most significant recent accomplishments, and discusses the initiatives that will shape our future.   There are always some exciting announcements, so don’t miss out on the latest news!  This is a very special presentation, as it will be President Doti’s final State of the University Address before he steps down as president on August 31.  So let’s be there in his honor, to find out where we’ve been over the past year, where we’re headed and how you – our faculty, staff and students – are a vital part of it all.

For those who can’t attend in person, click here for the live webcast of the address.

After the address, attendees will receive a free limited-edition Chapman University poster – the latest in the beautiful series of Chapman posters created annually by our graphic design students.

Also following the address, the entire campus community is cordially invited to the Grand Opening of the new Hilbert Museum of California Art, located at 167 N. Atchison Street right across from Ruby’s and the Orange train station.  Shuttle buses will be running to and from Memorial Hall to the Museum right after the speech and until 1:30 p.m., and afterwards on their regular schedule.   The Museum’s Grand Opening open house will run from noon to 5 p.m. – the Parking Lots shuttle bus from Schmid Gate regularly runs to the bus loop beside Ruby’s, where the Museum is just steps away.

The Hilbert Museum focuses on California Scene painting, a movement that began around the 1920s in which artists depicted the everyday life of people in California: on farms, ranches and docks; in the open countryside, cities, towns and on the road. This is all thanks to the generosity of Mark and Janet Hilbert, the amazing couple who have collected this art and are now donating their spectacular collection to Chapman so our students and the public can enjoy and learn from it.  Come see the paintings, meet the donors, hear from experts, sample some great food courtesy of Ruby’s, and learn more about this fascinating and engaging style of art. The Museum’s regular opening hours, starting March 1, will be Tuesdays-Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shuttle buses will operate from the State of the University Address in Memorial Hall to the Museum, which is located just across from Ruby’s and the train station.  This is the only museum in the nation to showcase the work of the California artists who visually captured the history and culture of the Golden State, from the 1920s to the present day.  Explore the Hilbert Museum’s first exhibition, showcasing a colorful survey of California Scene painting. Experts will be on hand to provide fascinating background on the works. Refreshments generously provided by Ruby’s.
